Game Review

Away to the Red Lion in Aston this week, never been there before so was looking forward to it. We were not disappointed, really nice pub with a very friendly atmosphere. We were unfortunately without the bonking bin man Clintos "The Greek" Chivers as he was out fornicating with his latest squeeze, they were apparently seen line dancing at the Kenny Rogers Club in Memphis, or was that Membury? Photos to be published later in the year in our "Bin Men Gone Wild" section. Back to the game: The four a side was a good win, we were neck and neck until the end but nicked it. First singles Andy "Dirty" Hoare v Sam Joyner, A very good game, Sam from the Red Lion played really well but struggled on the winning double which allowed Andy back in with two nice 70+ finishes for a 2-1 win. Second singles: Cliff "The Quiff" was on majestic form again, another 180 to his name and a 2-0 win over their captain Pete Simmons. Third on for the cods was Chris "Marsupial Man" Kibbey, struggled a little against Dave Robb who played well and went down 2-0 to the Red Lion man. Last on in the singles was yours truly, played the landlord Roger Joyner, good game but I think the Tom Jones we blasted over the juke box put Roger off and I won 2-0. The pairs were up next, Andy and Cliff struggled against Sam and Pete from the Red Lion but just stole it in the last leg for a 2-1 win. Last pair and it was Jabber and me against Dave and Roger, Jabber starting both legs on a double with his first throw which allowed us to win 2-0. A 6-1 win for the Cods, what a result! it flattered us a little as a fairer result would have been 4-3 but it is nice for the luck to go our way for a change. Have to say this about the night, it was the best away night we have had, the Red Lion is a fantastic place and Roger and everyone there made us feel really welcome, we had a great night, good bunch of lads who were up for the crack as much as us, cheap beer and great food, let's hope that we get put into the same league for the winter. To all those who have not yet been there, go and have a meal and a drink in a friendly country pub - you will not be disappointed, don't forget to say hello to Tilley the Terrier but be warned, don't give her any sausages - you will get shouted at!
