Game Review

Well guys and gals, what more can you ask, both ourselves and the Witney Snooker Club level on 49 points a piece and playing each other in the last game of the season for the title!

To the Cotty we headed in anticipation of a good match and we were not disappointed. The four a side was first with Chris "Marsupial Man" Kibbey, Clintos "The Greek" Chivers, Chris "Jabber" Green and Andy "Dirty" Hoare up for the Cods. A good game but we just lost out at the end as our chaps just missed the doubles, score Cods 0 Snooker 1. On the the first game of singles and it was yours truly up against M Stanton from the snooker club, I played OK and won 2-0, score now tied at 1-1. Up next was the Greek against B Cyphus from the snooker club, although the Greek played well he was no match for the snooker club man who played very well and won 2-0, score now Cods 1 Snooker Club 2. Third on for the Cods was Cliff "The Quiff" Southam, complete with the new Quiff which he had been preening since two in the afternoon. We all waited in anticipation to see whether the swagger (I think I mean sway) was in place but an excellent game from the Quiffster ensured a swift 2-0 victory and tied the match at 2-2. Last on in the singles for the Cods was the dirty Hoare himself, Andy had a stormer and won 2-0 to take the Cods into a 3-2 lead and just one point away from the league. First pair on were myself and Jabber, we easily won the first leg but then the snooker boys pulled out a stunning second to level at 1-1, In the third and deciding leg again the boys from the snooker played well with Mr Cyphus hitting a couple of 140's to take a lead, we fought back and with them on double tops I had a chance at 124 for the title, I hit a single 20 then the treble 18 and with bull left I steadied myself, stepped back and with all of the precision and grace of Eddy the Eagle I threw my dart at the bull, the crowd erupted as my attempt just clipped the wire on the treble 9! that was it for that game as the snooker boys won and levelled the match at 3-3 with whomever wins the last pairs wins the league! Up for the Cods was The swaying mantis Cliff and the Hoare. A good tussle in the first leg but Cliff hit double 12 for a 1-0 lead, In the second again our guys played well with the Hoare hitting some good trebles to bring us down to a double, Cliff missed tops for the match and left Andy 35, Andy stepped up, hit the single 3 then a single sixteen and with the future Mrs Hoare and everyone else in the bar holding their breath he threw his third dart absolutely perfectly into the middle of the double 8 to win the match and the league title for the Cods, what a finish! At this point I must mention how much a team effort this season has been, for this game tonight Jabber stepped down from the singles to let Andy play and then Chris Kibbey stepped down in the pairs again to let Andy play in that all decisive game, this sums up the whole ethos of the team this year, we have all played really well and have all deserved this win. It also has to be said that the Witney Snooker Club guys were fantastic, we all had a laugh from start to finish and they joined in the singing in the end, well played guys and good sports as well.

All I can say is well done the Cods well deserved and we now have a free meal at the Cotty tonight to celebrate!  Woohoo
